Workshop Details

 

This two-week (9 day), fully remote workshop, focuses on quantitative reasoning and how it relates to the 7-12th grade curriculum. Workshop concepts will include (but are not limited to):

Project Goals/Objectives

  • Develop an understanding of what quantitative reasoning is, and what it is not;

  • Understand the importance of quantitative reasoning in today's world;

  • Discover ways to develop and improve quantitative reasoning abilities in their students;

  • Provide an immersive experience in quantitative reasoning.

  • Provide participants with interesting problems and activities that they can incorporate into their own teaching.

  • Develop valuable relationships and networks with other Noyce mathematics teachers throughout the Western Region.

Participants earn a $500 stipend and 60 hours of professional development seat hours for successfully completing the workshop!

Facilitators

                              Jeff Hovermill is a Professor of Mathematics Education at Northern Arizona University.

                              

          

                             

                              Brian Beaudrie is a Professor of Mathematics Education at Northern Arizona University.

                               David Deville is a Mathematics Lecturer at Northern Arizona University. David received his                                         PhD in mathematics from the University of Arkansas, and conducted dissertation research in                                     the area of quantitative reasoning education. He currently works as a lecturer of mathematics                                     at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff. In his free time he enjoys spending time with his                                       spouse, Sarah Watson, and his dog, Jasper. They all enjoy outdoor activities like hiking, rock                                         climbing, and skiing. He is also the current course coordinator for MAT 114 (Quantitative                                             Reasoning), and is working with Jeff Hovermill, Brian Beaudrie, and others to re-vamp the                                           course.
